Since beginning her journey as a teacher in 2001, Shannan has trained extensively across multiple yoga modalities, continuing to evolve her expertise and approach. With each training, she finds greater wisdom and greater humility in equal measure. Indra Devi, Judith Lasater, Shiva Rea, Erich Schiffmann, and Hafiz have shaped both her yoga and philosophy. Shannan sees teaching, yoga, and life through the lens of evolution, the ever-changing subtle shift of unfolding – within our expression of a pose, within our practice over time, and within our journey to know ourselves.
Shannan opened Thrive in 2003 to create a non-traditional studio experience underpinned by a deep respect for the lineage and impact of the practice of yoga. At Thrive, the freedom of self-exploration unfolds within the structure of the synchronized movement and breath of the group; the individual journey is held in the container of the class experience. Today, Thrive continues to grow and evolve, with experienced practitioners and those new to yoga alike drawn to the distinctive style the studio offers, to the transformational guidance of Shannan’s teaching, and to the support and camaraderie of this inclusive community. Since 2013, Shannan has been leading 200-hour teacher trainings that emphasize the potency of holding space, guiding teachers to find their own unique voices.
Shannan’s classes ask you to challenge yourself with long holds and slow, layered flows with intelligent, accessible sequencing that will leave you stronger and more resilient.
